CMC to test food samples for arsenic

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will begin food sample testing
for arsenic within another week, CMC Chief Medical Officer Dr Pradeep
Kariyawasam told the Daily News yesterday.
He said that the council is getting equipment ready to carry out the
tests. He said that the decision to conduct tests was planned following
recent complaints of high arsenic compounds in imported pesticides from
Germany. Dr Kariyawasam said food items such as rice available in super
markets and grocery stores will be tested. |
