The owner's elderly mother and aunt had lived in the house and it had been an ideal setting for the suspect woman to steal things from the house on her boyfriends' compulsion.

Once her boyfriend had demanded Rs 200,000 from her to help him seek employment abroad. Accordingly, the suspect woman had robbed a 2 sovereign chain, two and a half sovereign pair of bangles, one sovereign bangles, a gold pendent and two gold rings from the house from time to time and given them to her boyfriend who had mortgaged the items to two pawn shops in Gampola and Nawalapitiya for Rs 122,000.
