Reservoir water levels drop

The water level of Castlereagh reservoir has dropped drastically

The water levels of Castlereagh and Maussakele reservoirs, which provide electricity to the national hydro-power system, have dropped due to the continuous dry weather in the central hills.

The water level of Castlereagh reservoir has dropped to 47 feet from spill level while the water level of the Maussakele reservoir has dropped to 37 feet from spill level. These two reservoirs provide hydro-electricity to Wimalasurendra, Canyon, Laxapana and Polpitiya hydro-power stations.

The Ceylon Electricity Board said that the power supply to the people may be interrupted if this dry weather situation continues.
