Proving their excellence in the area of theatre and dramatic art,
this time Royal College Drama society is going to present ‘Jack and the
SOY Beak stalk’ in a different guise replacing the old demons with
current culprits who exploit resources for short term gains without
thinking of its consequences.
The drama is intertwined with the valuable message of sustainability
which is apt for the society, stunted with wastage of resources. Giant
puppets and shadow puppets will be featured in this drama that will
fascinate children and adults alike.
This production comes to light at the instigation of Royal College
Primary Section Deputy Principal and the Head of the English Drama
Society Lakshmi Attygalle. The music for the drama is directed by
Sulochana Dissanayake.
Speaking of the objectives of the drama society, Royal College
Primary Section Deputy Principal and the Head of the English Drama
Society Lakshmi Attygalle said, “Drama develops aesthetic intelligence
as well as help students gain inter and intra personal skills.”
She further explained that it incorporates different aspects of
learning and demonstrate how such standards can guide and energize
students.”
Jack and the Beanstalk is a children’s story of a boy who sells his
family cow for a pocket full of magic beans and enters a giant’s world
by climbing the beans stalk.
This story has been changed to adapt today’s world where the economic
pattern is totally capitalist, mammoth multi nationals are dominating
the whole scene, the society with a lot of festering issues; all the
societal themes are to be discussed through the drama.
How this drama is adapted to modern social environment can be enjoyed
on May 26 and 27 at Royal College Navaragahala. Tickets are obtainable
