Sathosa records Rs 2.5 billion turnover
Sathosa has registered a turnover exceeding Rs 2.5 billion during the
first half of April (April 1 to 16) this year, the first time that the
Sathosa turnover had exceeded Rs 2.5 billion within a 16 day period,
said Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando, when
he addressed Ministry officials at the Ministry auditorium yesterday
after re-starting work for the New Year.
The Minister said a program to ensure an uninterrupted supply of
essential food and other items to the consumers during the Sinhala and
Hindu New Year season, was launched jointly by Lanka Sathosa,
Co-operatives, Co-op City Shops and Mini Co-op Cities.
The Ministry, he said, was able to maintain a uniform price for
essential food and other items by keeping adequate stocks brought
through the Co-operative system. This was a major victory achieved by
his ministry.
The Minister said legal action has been taken against 13,000 errant
traders who had breached the Consumer Protection Act since January this
year. |
