Late Dr S A Wickremesinghe remembered

Former founder of the Sri Lankan Communist Party and first ever
leftist to enter the State Council in 1931, the late Dr S A
Wickremasinghe, was felicitated on his 110th birth anniversary which
fell on April 13 at the foot of his statue in Hakmana opposite the
Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara.

Dr Wickremasinghe who was born in Athureliya in the Akuressa
electorate in April 1901, hailed from the famous Narandeniya Walawwa in
Athuraliya.
General Secretary, Sri Lanka Communist Party and Senior Minister for
Rehabilitation, Human Resources D E W Gunasekara, Minister of Prisons
Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadheera S P C Minister Bindu Weerasinghe, Mayor
of Matara G D Yasaratna, S P C Member Weerasumane Weerasingha and
Kivipathi Martin Jayawardane were present.
Rev Pandit Ehalape Yathirathana Thera, Viharadhipathi, Polhena Purana
Temple also spoke. Rev Anunayaka, Badulle Gnadassi Thera administered
