All faculties of the Sabaragamuwa University were re-opened yesterday
following a temporary shut down after senior students were charged with
ragging freshers.
A spokesman for the Sabaragamuwa University told the Daily News that
the university administration came to a decision to re-open the
University after disciplinary inquiries were completed against the
students allegedly involved in the ragging.
According to the University authorities, students were allowed to
return to their hostels on condition of not engaging in unlawful acts
inside the university premises.
Though the University was opened, no student will be allowed to
harass fellow students on any ground. "If any unlawfully or
indisciplined acts were found, stern legal action will be taken against
them," he said. Meanwhile, the Eastern University is also scheduled to
be re-opened today after being closed temporarily following a clash
between students and the Police,a spokesman for the University said.
A clash erupted when students of the University protested against the
Police post erected within the University.
The university administration was yet to take a decision on the
demand of the students. |
