International symposium starts in East today

Arrangements have been finalized by the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka for a three day international symposium on ‘Post-war economic development through Science Technology and Management’ scheduled to commence at SEUSL’s New Arts Theatre at Oluvil today.

The inaugural ceremony which is to be presided over by Vice-Chancellor Dr S M Mohamed Ismail will be attended by the University’s Chancellor Prof Achl Mohamed Ishak as the chief guest and University Grant Commission’s acting Vice-Chairman Prof Rohan Rajapaksa will be the guest of honour and deliver the keynote address.

Vice Chancellors, Researchers, Professors, Academics, Educationists, high ranking officials from various Departments and special invitees from India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Iran and Bangladesh who have already consented to participate in this symposium would be taken in a procession flanked by traditional polladi, bawas rabban beatings and Kandyan dances.

They are also expected to present their research papers on Social Science, Science Technology and Information Technology, Commerce, Management, Language, Religion, Culture, Natural Resources and Sustainable Development.

The cultural events by students depicting all three religions, the presentations of traditional cultural events by rural folk such as polladi, bawas raban beatings including some colourful events by Indian university students would be the highlights of the programme scheduled for second day April 20.

Valedictory ceremony scheduled for the final day April 21 will be attended by Environmental Director of Malaysia Dr Natheerkhan Ibrahim as chief guest and Prof T Vasanthakumaran of University of Madras as guest of honour.

Excursion to historic and religious important places in the district would be main itinerary on the final day by the visiting Vice Chancellors, Researchers, Professors, Academics, Educationists, high ranking officials from various departments and special invitees who are expected to participate in this symposium.
