Traders not displaying price lists:

CAA to intensify raids

The Consumer Affairs Authority will increase raids on errant traders who fail to display price lists of items advertised in the print and electronic media and implement laws and regulations against them to the letter.

Minister Johnston Fernando

This follows instructions given by Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando to Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Rumi Marzook at a meeting held at the Ministry auditorium yesterday.

The Minister pointed out that it was mandatory for traders to exhibit price lists when advertising products in the print and electronic media and directed the Consumer Authority Chairman to intensify raids against those flouting this regulation and take stern legal action against them by setting up a separate unit for the purpose.

He said this unit should observe advertisements published in the print and electronic media daily and identify advertisers who fail to state the price of the items advertised is tantamount to deceiving consumers.

The Minister also requested all officials attached to departments and institutions coming under his Ministry to cut short their New Year holidays and report back to work immediately.
