Timid giants

Where the ocean is so deep and blue
Sea is gentle, a splendid treasure trove
There lies a magnificent blue whales grove
About them, we at this stage, have little clue
The largest creatures on the planet, they do roam
They have made our ocean their own home
Along deep canyons for food as they comb
They take time off to greet their visitors as a norm
'Timid Giants', they are called as they are pretty harmless
Gracefully emerging and submerging to the eye pleases
In a rhythmic motion they go about their own business
And with a gentle spurt, they remind us to mind that of ours
All year round they appear to stay around here
As if to guard Sri Lanka, our Mother so dear
Glimpse of the mighty mammal is incredibly near
And we in our greed may spoil it all, that's my fear
Blue whales hunted and were on the menu
Dwindling in numbers to just a few
This time again they appear on the menu
To see only, yet disturbing their habitat and venue
It might be alright to show whales to earn a dime
Sans disturbing them and their habitat and clime
But to disturb and stress them up, is not it a crime
Causing noise and polluting the sea with grime
Thirty five boats said to be already 'in business'
It would be hundred before anyone notices!
Wave after wave of raging craft and vessels
As they 'chase the whales' the whales may desert us!
