The Kitchen Stewarding team at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo visited the
Dedunu Children's Home in Matugama, south of Kalutara on a CSR
initiative recently. The home was opened in January 2005 under Project
Whitehouse Sri Lanka and now cares for thirty children aged one to
fifteen.
The children are provided with education, drinking water, medical
attention and other basic necessities. Whilst it operates primarily on
funds raised in Germany, the team was eager to pool their resources
towards brightening at least a day in the children's lives.
Through personal contributions by the entire Kitchen Stewarding team
- food, bed sheets, slippers, towels, books and toys - were purchased
and taken to the home by fifteen team members.
The team prepared lunch for the children on the premises before
inviting them to feast. Gifts were presented and donations made to the
children's library in support of their education.
"Working on this project brought as much joy to the team as it did
the children we were helping. The whole project, from collecting funds
to cooking and serving the children brought the team closer to each
other," Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo Stewarding Manager Asoka Wedasinghe
said. The team looks forward to pursuing similar initiatives in the near
future. |
