Death of Donald Ivan

Veteran recording engineer Donald Ivan passed away yesterday. Ivan was 61. Born at Marawila, he had his education at St Xaviers College - Marawila, Madampe Central College and finally at the Radio Lab, Kotahena. He then began his professional career and has served Joneth Recording Studio, Borella for 33 years as its Chief Recording Engineer.

His versality in the field was such that he was the most sought after recording engineer of the local music industry and played a pioneering role in the evolution of the musical records, cassettes and compact discs.

He was also responsible for recordings of many Sinhala films. Ivan was also a leading lyricist with many popular Sinhala songs to his credit.

Donald Ivan was the husband of Premila Ramanayake and the father of St Bridget's Convent Student Dulanji Herath.

His remains lie at the Barney Raymond's Funeral Parlour and the funeral will be held on Friday, March 11.
