Opposition made country dependent - President
The Government considers uplifting the local
economy and village development as key components in its future
development thrust, President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted yesterday.
On the same note he said that the Opposition when in power had
caused immense damage to the local economy because of their
short-sighted policies.

Postal voting for the Local Government Elections
concluded without any major incident, Senior DIG for elections
Gamini Navarathne said. He said only 119 complaints were made so far
from all political parties.

Moves to prevent impersonation
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has
advised District Returning Officers to take all precautionary
measures to prevent the votes of dead persons or those living abroad
being cast at the upcoming election. The Elections Department has
placed a special mark on the ballot papers of those who are dead and
those living abroad to identify them clearly.
