Growing demand for veggie seeds

The Peradeniya Agricultural Department said there was a growing demand for vegetable seeds and plants with the launching of the one million homegardening program.

Vegetable seeds and plants can be obtained in large scale consignments from the agro centres under the Agriculture Department. In small scale consignments they can be obtained from many farms under the department and also from marketing centres and Agarian Services and Agriculture Centres.

The District Agricultural Centres in addition to the provision of seeds and plants, are giving a one-day training to the farmers after they have been selected. Here they will be given the training and awareness on various cultivation methods.

Peradeniya Agricultural Department's Deputy Director K S Yasakeerthi said farmers could obtain plants within three or four weeks of planting seeds.
