Japan funded 2,193 million Japanese Yen to upgrade the Anuradhapura
Teaching Hospital. The project started in 2008 and was completed in
2010.
"The Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital is the only tertiary care
hospital in the North Central Province. It offers healthcare services to
over two million people said a spokesperson from the Japanese Embassy.
The hospital had been congested with a high outpatient rate and an
occupancy rate.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency at the request of the Sri
Lankan government provided the hospital with a new three-storeyed
building and medical equipment. The building includes an outpatient
department, a paediatric intensive care unit, an obstetric and
gynaecology theatre, a pharmacy, a laboratory and clinic rooms.
