Vege prices down

Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre (DDEC) sources yesterday told the Daily News that prices of several vegetables and red onions have dropped by 30 percent compared to the prices during the previous week.

This has been attributed to the inflow of vegetables and red onions produced by the Jaffna Farmers. The DDEC gets more than 500 tonnes of vegetables and red onions from Jaffna a day and this has attributed to the reduction in vegetable prices in the market.

The sources told the Daily News that vegetable prices will further decline with the inflow of harvest by the farmers in the Central Province within the next few weeks.

The wholesale price of a kilo of red onions has reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 40 with the inflow of red onions from Jaffna, Vavuniya and Puttalam areas.
