Van mishap:

17 injured, three critical

A van plying from Welimada to Kelaniya fell off the Walakadayaya, Uthuwankanda precipice injuring 17 commuters, three critically including a monk. The incident occurred around 10.30 pm Tuesday.

Mawanella police said that the injured were admitted to Mawanella hospital.

The van driver had lost control at Uthuwankanda, police said. The vehicle had then fallen off a steep hill. Mawanella police are investigating.
