SLAF's 60th Anniversary Exhibition

Dear Children,

Some of the enthusiastic school children at the exhibition.

How has the week been treating you? I am sure you had a busy week watching the World Cup Cricket apart from getting involved in other activities.

Remember, studies are very important. So, please don't neglect your studies.

This year is a very important one for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). Why? Because The SLAF celebrates its 60th anniversary. The SLAF is our Motherland's 'Eye in the sky'.

The SLAF organized an exhibition to mark this anniversary.

Did you have an opportunity to go for this exhibition? I hope you did. It was very informative and educative. The large crowds at the exhibition proved its success.

I know of a lot of young people who really enjoyed viewing the exhibition. They said it was fun viewing various aircraft from the past to the present. It was not only the young, but even the not so young found the SLAF exhibition to be most fascinating. Well have a great week!

Bye for now.

Tunisia is the Northernmost country in Africa. It is a Maghreb country and is bordered by Algeria to the West, Libya to the Southeast and the Mediterranean Sea to the North and East.

Its area is almost 165,000 square kilometres (64,000 sq mi), with an estimated population of just over 10.4 million. Its name is derived from the capital Tunis located in the North-East.

Tunisia is the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range. The South of the country is composed of the Sahara desert, with much of the remainder consisting of particularly fertile soil and 1,300 kilometres (810 mi) of coastline.

After obtaining independence in 1956 the country took the official name of the 'Kingdom of Tunisia' at the end of the reign of Lamine Bey and the Husainid Dynasty.

With the proclamation of the Tunisian republic on July 25, 1957, the nationalist leader Habib Bourguiba became its first President.

Tunisia has relations with both the European Union - with whom it has an association agreement and the Arab world. Tunisia is also a member of the Arab League and the African Union.

Tunisia has established close relations with France in particular, through economic cooperation, industrial modernization and privatisation programs.

Departure and welcome

- PART 60

By Uncle Sachi and Aunt Ruwi

In 'Kid's Den'...

Four children, Pramodaka, Nalaka, Champika and Chinthaka, go on a trip to the woods with their parents for their school holidays. In the middle of the night the children are awakened by a strange noise. On following their dog, Scooby, Chinthaka is snared by the spell of the 'luring stones'. Pramodaka departs with Ruwi, a pixie, to recall a book of spell to cast off the spell while the others remain behind with Sachi, a gnome. A storm breaks and the kids are scattered.

A sleeping spell is unleashed and all the unmythical creatures including the children fall asleep. Strangely Pramodaka is the only one awake. Meanwhile Sulo, the goblin who is always trying to make trouble for the mythical creatures, comes up with a nasty plan. She rushes off gang up the rest of her pack and reveals an age old secret.

However the group discovers that it is not only Sulo's secret that is uncovered by the storm. Something dark and deadly had been hidden in the depths of the earth waiting to release itself and return for revenge... ('Return of the Kids' is the sequel to 'Kid's Den')

Rangoon lost interest in Sulo's speech. He did not trust the female goblin as far as he could see her and decided that it was fabricating a tall tale to impress Disen. Soon he was lost in his own thoughts. He was expecting a visitor soon, only the 'visitor' will be one who will stay and become the 'controller'. Hah, that will teach Disen and Pradesh a thing or two!

"I have to be ready to greet him. I'll make a pandol to welcome him and decorate with fish bones and seaweed. I can tell my mate to arrange the food... only I hope he would not consume half of it. We will have to find some fruits. Rotten fish wouldn't do for an elf.

I have to be in Nile's good books when he comes here...." his thoughts were interrupted as someone tugged at his sleeve. Annoyed, Rangoon looked around. It was his partner, The Other Rangoon.

Thought he was christened 'The Other Rangoon', he looked nothing like his counterpart. He was extremely stout and had a fearful look on his face as he looked up at Rangoon. Throughout the years, whenever the two were together, The Other Rangoon lost his identity. He was merely an echo of Rangoon, agreeing with his outrageous plans and hating all that he hated. He had been watching his mate's dazed expression. "I say... What is going on?" he asked.

"You will find out soon enough. It is not a matter which can be discussed in public," Rangoon growled. He cast a searching look around him least one of the other goblins had overheard his comment. Thankfully they were all engrossed in Sulo's tale. Meanwhile as Ruwi and Sachi were watching the woods come alive before them, Jay beckoned to the children's father.

"I need to tell you something. It is confidential," he whispered. "What is it?" The man looked alarmed. He had a reason to be because Jay did not look as cheerful as he had a matter of minutes ago."

"I... I will have to leave you all to complete this task. I cannot do this any longer. I have to go."

"You-you can't. How can you leave like this and all of a sudden? The operation is going so well."

"You will have to find another leader. It is time for me to go. Even elves cannot take risks when time calls."

"Then stay a while. At least till we find someone..."
"I cannot turn a deaf ear on your requests. I will stay a bit longer... But not here..."
