RHM Chandrasekera:

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd former Company Secretary RHM
Chandrasekara passed away peacefully whilst he was on a visit to his
daughter’s residence in Sydney, Australia in January this year. He had a
fall and did not regain consciousness consequent to a stroke. He was 82
years at the time of his demise.
His daughter Dilkie Kularatne is a resident of Sydney for a
considerable period and is a old girl of the Visaka Vidyalaya – Colombo.
She is employed in the staff of a university in Sydney. His daughter
Shamalie was employed for a short priod as a Sub-Editor of the Lake
House newspapers.
Chandrasekara was the secretary of the ANCL group for 37 years and
was a dedicated staff officer who did yeomen service for the uplift of
the newspapers like the Sunday Observer, Daily News, Dinamina etc.
published the group.
He was an old boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy. He was a brilliant
student and a keen sportsman. He was a product of the Golden Era of the
college under the Principalship of the late LH Mettananda. The College
excelled in sports and studies. They were the unbeaten school cricket
team in the year 1943 and did well in Cadetting, Scouting and Soccer.
They also produced seven members of the Parliament, some of whom were
Chandrasekera’s classmates.
His children were also brilliant students. His other daughter Dr
Samara, is a physician in a prestigious hospital in Singapore and his
son Mahesh is Mechanical Engineer, having his own enterprise.
His wife Chandra is a dedicated wife who was married to him for 55
years and devoted her time for the education of his children. All were
brilliant in their studies.
His cremation took place at the Castlebrook cemetery in Sydney,
Australia in the presence of a distinguished large gathering. He was a
devoted Buddhist and may he attain the supreme bliss of Nirwana.
