Wild Life office robbed

A group of robbers entered the Wild Life Office at Kaudulle and after breaking the safe there took off sixty thousand rupees and a T-56 gun and cartridges following in the another safe and fled away Saturday.

The police said the looting had taken place when the staff of the Wild Life office had taken into custody several suspects who were cutting timber unlawfully in the jungle.

A team of about one hundred police officers were engaged in the operation to crack down the suspects on the instructions of Senior DIG in the North Central Province Emantha Gamage and Polonnaruwa Senior Superintendent of Police NC Fernando.

The Minneriya police are investigating.
