Gunmen in southwestern Pakistan set ablaze 16
vehicles carrying fuel supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan
Saturday, officials said. The convoy was attacked before dawn
outside the town of Dera Murad Jamali, some 400 kilometres southeast
of Quetta, Baluchistan province, local administration chief Abdul
Fatah Khajjak said.

Guyana recognizes Palestinian state
Guyana on Thursday became the latest Latin
American country to recognize an independent Palestinian state, the
Foreign Ministry announced. “It is Guyana’s hope that the increasing
recognition of the state of Palestine will contribute to a
resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the creation of
lasting peace and stability in the region,” the Foreign Ministry
said in a statement.

Syria warns of foreign intervention in Lebanese crisis
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad warned Saturday
of the threat of outside interference in the Lebanese political
crisis. In a meeting with the Progressive Socialist Party leader
Druze Walid Jumblatt, Al Assad discussed events in the neighbouring
nation, currently paralyzed by the collapse of the Saad Hariri
Government after 11 of his 30 Cabinet Ministers resigned last
Wednesday.
