More than 5,000 UNP supporters in the Gampola electorate have
expressed their willingness to get the membership of the People’s
Alliance abandoning their ties with the United National Party to support
the Government in the forthcoming Local Government Polls.
Five hundred UNP supporters of the 5,000 joined the People Alliance
last Friday at a function headed by Prime Minister D M Jayaratne.
These UNPers were of the view that the Government unlike the other
previous Governments has given priority to rural development. They came
to the Prime Minister’s house at Gampola and said they were fully
supporting the People’s Alliance in the forthcoming LG elections. Prime
Minister Jayaratne told them as a person from a village, the President
had decided to develop and 100,000 villages in rural areas and find
employment opportunities for the village youth. |
