Ayurveda for younger generation

The Ayurveda knowledge should be given to the younger generation. They are not aware of the medicinal value of the herbs growing in their own gardens, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake said at a press briefing at his residence in Kurunegala. The Minister said that in ancient times the people joined the king in establishing herbal gardens, but today there were people who could not even identify a common medicinal plant when they see one.

"There are a number of ayurvedic herbs which can be easily grown in our gardens. These herbs are rich in nutrient content and medicinal value. Our native treatment is second to non in the world. Therefore more educated youth should be encouraged to learn ayurveda. They should be given a scientific knowledge in this subject to bring ayurveda to international level", he added.
