Rains to continue

According to Meteorological Department sources, more rainy weather is expected during the next few days. Showers are expected in the North, North Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and some parts of Sabaragamuwa Province during this evening and tomorrow morning. However, the cold climate experienced during the past several days has ended.

The adverse weather situation islandwide is also expected to decrease during the coming days.

Therefore, the monsoon effects will also be weaken during the next couple of weeks, the Meteorological Department sources added.

Due to the rainy weather, more than one million people have been affected by the accompanying floods in almost 16 districts.

The Government took timely steps to assist flood victims providing them with food and other requirements.

Flood relief measures are under way with the assistance of Security Forces personnel and other Government institutions. Under this initiative, special attention has been focused to deal with the aftermath of floods since water borne diseases are likely to spread.
