Nestle to invest Rs 10 billion

Nestle is to invest Rs 10 billion in Sri Lanka within the next five to six years, a senior official of the company said. Addressing media in Colombo yesterday, Nestle South Asia Market Head and Nestle Lanka PLC Chairman Antonio Helio Waszyk said, “Considering all favourable conditions Nestle sees a lot of opportunities in Sri Lanka and believes in its potential. Accordingly Nestle has stepped up its investment in the country. Within the next five to six years we are going to invest Rs 10 billion. Out of this we plan to invest more than Rs 2 billion in 2011.

In the past three months:

Marked improvement in apparel sector

There has been a marked improvement in the apparel industry performance in the past three months and the industry expects steady performance this year. “The apparel industry is doing well for the past three months. We expect this year’s performance to be as same as the last year and to end the year at the same level of US $ three billion revenue for 2011. There has been a positive trend for the past three months and this is a good sign,” Joint Apparel Association Forum Secretary General Rohan Masakorala told Daily News Business.

Underground pipeline to Mattala Airport:

Relevant authorities in the Ports Authority are looking at the possibilities of setting up an underground pipeline capable of transporting aviation fuel to Mattala Airport from aviation fuel tanks in the Magampura port.

Sri Lanka Tourism’s ‘Refreshingly Sri Lanka Visit 2011’ campaign was launched with 12 refreshing themes for 12 months of the year. January is for “Pristine Beaches of Sri Lanka” and the first program of the month was a beach conservation day conducted covering popular beach destinations in the island. The main event was held at Wadduwa beach under the participation of Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr Nalaka Godaheva, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Acting Managing Director Malraj Kiriella and Tourist Hoteliers’ Association of Sri Lanka President Anura Lokuhetty. Foreign and local tourists, tourism stakeholders along the sea side hotels and enterprises, environmentalists, schoolchildren and interested public actively participated for these programs conducted islandwide.
