Underground pipeline to Mattala Airport:
Magampura Tank Farm work proceeding
Relevant authorities in the Ports Authority are looking at the
possibilities of setting up an underground pipeline capable of
transporting aviation fuel to Mattala Airport from aviation fuel tanks
in the Magampura port.
Currently, the construction work of the Tank Farm project, which will
consist of 14 tanks with 80,000 cubic meter capacity, is taking place in
Magampura port premises.
The total investment of the Tank Farm project is US $ 76 million,
Magampura Port Chief Engineer Agil Hewageegana told Daily News Business.
The farm will include eight tanks for bunkering, three tanks for
aviation fuel and three tanks for Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The total
Tank Farm project is likely to be finished by October this year.
“We hope that we would be able to finish the construction work of the
eight tanks, which are to be used for bunkering in June or July. Two oil
jetties have already been set up in the port premises to facilitate this
process,” Hewageegana said.
The eligible investors will be able to fill their gas tanks at the
Magampura port using these three LPG tanks.
However, suitable investors will be selected after finalizing the
Magampura project proposals, which were called last year to grant
permission to set up new ventures in the Magampura port.
