ICASL to introduce ICT enabled products

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), the national accounting body will unveil three top notch ICT enabled products, namely the Multimedia Learning Guides (MMLG), the Online Course Management System (OCMS) and the Library System, on January 13. The MMLG and the OCMS were also honoured with national level merit awards late last year, organized by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka.

The Multimedia Learning Guides (MMLG) is a project to ensure that the Certificate in Accounting and Business - I (CAB - I) level of the Chartered Accountancy qualification will be a more interesting and thorough experience to its students. The new facility will provide complementary study material in the form of Multimedia DVDs along with the conventional Study Packs. Each set of Study Packs will be accompanied by a DVD which will comprise study material in a multitude of formats such as Text, Illustrations, Animations, Narrations, Video Clips of Lectures, Real Life Video Clips, Audio Clips, Exercises and Quizzes.

The Online Course Management System (OCMS), provides online study facility to CAB I Level students via ICASL website. This facility could also be accessed by non ICASL students. The Institute expect that the OCMS facility will be found helpful for students from rural areas and working students who do not have easy access to tuition classes. Both the MMLG and OCMS have been developed under the patronage of ICTA and the software vendor for these projects is e-Learnware (Pvt) Ltd.

The new ICASL Library System is an online system entrusted with managing the routine library operations such as cataloguing, circulations, reservations, fines and other patron management necessities. The library system is also equipped with facilities such as online book searching, reservations and payment of fines by patrons. Among the other services offered by the library system is the Integration with RFID card readers, which enables the patrons to use their ICASL ID cards as the library card.

In this day and age where technology has become a key enabler, ICASL has placed a greater importance on IT literacy of its students and members. The Institute has an IT training facility with 120 computers that trains around 8,000 students every year ensuring that their students and members are IT literate and geared to face the challenges posed by technology. It is believed that the new ICT products will provide its users with much convenience and faster access to information; which will invariably add value to ICASL students and members.
