Shangri-La to begin work next year:

More seven star hotels

Sri Lanka is to have two more seven star hotels in the country in addition to the first seven star hotel to be built by Hong Kong Based leisure Group Shangri-La. Hong Kong based leisure Group Shangri-La has signed a deal with the Sri Lankan Government to purchase ten acres in a part of the Defence Ministry premises in Galle Face.

Mahindra Group to see SUV market sales boom

Ideal Motors expects to increase sales to 6,000 with the tourism boom and the Cricket World Cup session starting in February, Ideal Motors, Chairman Nalin Welgama told Daily News Business. Ideal Motors followed by the 100 percent tax concession on SUV vehicles will import Mahindra double cabs to Sri Lanka next January. Currently the SUV tax is at 112 percent and this will increase the demand for SUVs in Sri Lanka.

Should focus on regional markets :

NCCSL wants FTA with Bangladesh

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) is lobbying for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Bangladesh. “We are working towards establishing the agreement through the recently formed Sri Lanka Bangladesh Business Council. The emphasis is paid on capturing potential markets in the sub continent,” National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka President Lal de Alwis told Daily News Business.

The National Handloom Textiles Competition and Exhibition 2010 was opened at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike hall at the BMICH by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday. This event will be open till December 30. The Handlooms Department of the Industry and Commerce Ministry has organized this event. Also present at the opening were Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Badiudeen and Deputy Minister Jayaratne Herath. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa taking a closer look at the products on display.
