Collapsed bridge not replaced

Thousands of people in several villages including Thabbowa, Thewanuwara and Thambapanni in the Karuwalagaswewa Divisional Secretariat area are inconvenienced due to the collapse of the iron bridge over Narioya in Thabbowa during the recent floods.

The residents of the areas told the Daily News that schoolchildren are the most affected. The bridge said to be more than 100 years old had been in a dilapidated state for a long time. The residents also said that representations made to the relevant authorities to maintain the bridge had been ignored.
