AG’s advice sought to rename DSs

The Public Administration Ministry had consulted the Attorney General on the proposal to scrap the post of District Secretary and to rename them as Government Agents giving them more power, Public Administration Minister John Seneviratne told the media recently.

“We have consulted the Attorney General who is now looking into the matter. We would be giving Government Agents more powers to supervise the Additional District Secretaries, who in future would become Assistant Government Agents and if necessary sort out any injustice meted out by these AGAs. If a person thinks that he or she had been unfairly treated that person can appeal to the Government Agent of their respective area for justice,” the Minister said.
