Excise books donated to children of war heroes

The Civil Security Department yesterday handed over school exercise
books worth Rs 4.5 million to the children of the Civil Security
Department personnel and to those who were handicapped and who
sacrificed their lives during humanitarian operations.
The exercise books needed for schooling students for the year 2011
from grade 1 to grade 12 were granted free. The Civil Security
Department granted books for 21,025 students.
The Department also handed over 100 wheel-chairs valued at Rs 1.8
million to the rural folk who were in need, during same ceremony. In
addition, six students who received best results at the grade five
scholarship examination and Ordinary Level examination were granted
scholarships.
The scholarships were granted under Suwa Saviya and grade five
students were granted scholarships of Rs 5000 while Ordinary Level
students were granted scholarships of Rs 10,000.
These donations were granted by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Civil
Security Department under the directions of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya
Rajapaksa, as a measure of welfare for the war heroes. Deputy Director
Operations of the Civil Security Department (CSD), Colonel Nihal
Samarakoon told the Daily News that funds for the donation of exercise
books were raised by running fairs and by organizing drama shown at
various places.
He also added that the Centre for the Handicapped at Kundasale,
provided the Civil Security Department 100 wheel-chairs to be granted to
the needy.
Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Unit chairperson Ayoma Rajapaksa
participated as Chief Guest. CSD Director General Rear Admiral Ananda
Peiris, CSD Seva Vanitha Unit chairperson, Kumuduni Peiris also
participated. |
