The circuit bunglows in the Wilpattu Sanctuary were open to local and foreign visitors from last week.

These bungalows were closed three years ago due to LTTE terrorist activities. Modaragam Aru wooden bungalow, costs Rs 8,000 per night. The duration of occupation is limited for three days only.

The bungalows can be reserved through the Wildlife Head Office Colombo, Chief Park Warden Weerasinghe Dissanayake said.

Meanwhile, the Wildlife authorities, on the instructions of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Affairs Minister S M Chandrasena will take action to preserve and protect places of archaeological, cultural and historical importance in the sanctuary. Meanwhile, selected Civil Security Corps personnel will be deployed to upgrade visitors’ care services. They are expected to deal with poachers and timber racketeers, Weerasinghe said.
