Water purification plant for Kilinochchi

The Water Mission International Institute (WNII) has funded a water purification plant in the Kilinochchi District. The facility located at Karikattikulam was commissed by Social Services Minister Felix Perera recently.

The WMII has spent US$ 25,000 on this project. This Centre will provide around 10,000 litres of water daily.

The project was implemented under the direction of Kilinochchi Security Forces Commander Major General Chandana Rajaguru. The Sri Lankan Army provided manpower to the project.

Minister Perera said that for over three decades people in Kilinochchi area suffered at the hands of terrorists.

No development programs had been implemented during this period. There were no any development programs such as roads, electricity, health, drinking water, housing. Terrorists destroyed every facility that had been provided by the Government.

Minister requested from the residents in the area to use water carefully. He said all should understand the value of water.

Rev Fr Sam Rajasuriya, Kilinochchi Security Forces Commander Major General Chandana Rajaguru, Commander 66th Brigadier Channa Kodituwakku, Poonaryn Divisional Secretary Wasantha Kumar also participated.
