Manju’s ‘B’ sample test result in three days

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manjula Wanniarachchi underwent his ‘B’ sample test at the Indian National Sports Institute in New Delhi yesterday after he was initially tested positive for the performance enhancing steroid nandrolone.

Wanniarachchi was accompanied by a three member Sri Lankan delegation headed by Professor Kalinga Indratissa along with Dr. Lal Ekanayake from the Sports Medicine Institute of the Ministry of Sports and Secretary of the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Col. Hemantha Weerasinghe.

However President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Hemasiri Fernando stated that the final outcome of the ‘B’ sample test will be delayed for at least three more days.

Wanniarachchi beat Welshman Sean McGoldrick on points in the 56 kg bantam weight class final to win a gold medal for his country after a lapse of 72 years at the Commonwealth Games recently.
