Man with detonator code arrested

The Police arrested a man and seized a detonator code and a hand grenade in his possession in the Nawadagala area in Elpitiya.

The Elpitiya Police arrested the person after villagers made several complaints saying the suspect was terrorising them by showing weapons.

The Police said that the suspect was an army deserter and had fled the Army about one an half years ago.

The group of Police officers led by Elpitiya Police Crime OIC IP Jayawickrama found the detonator code and the hand grenade buried in the compound behind the suspect’s house on information received from the suspect.

The Police said the youth was a resident of the same area.

Some villagers complained stating that the suspect threatened them showing a firearm looked like a pistol as well. The Police could not find such a weapon.

The suspect was to be produced before the Elpitiya Magistrate yesterday. The Elpitiya Police are investigating.
