President’s China visit highlights
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was in China for three days to
participate as a special invitee at the Expo summit on the invitation of
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
The Expo 2010 summit began last Saturday in line with the Expo 2010
Exhibition in Shanghai, China. The subject of urban modernization under
sustainable development was discussed at length.
The need for nature friendly cities under the theme ‘Better City,
Better Life’ too was discussed extensively.
The world leaders’ attention was also drawn to the history of the
exhibition.
It was emphasized that this was not just a trade exhibition but one
which showcased participating countries identity and their technological
progress.
The leaders of Nepal, Finland, Hungaria, State of Bahama, the Expo
2010 General Secretary and UN General Secretary Ban-ki-moon also
participated.
