Ja-ela - Seeduwa double track nearing completion

The construction of the double track railway line from Ja-ela to Seeduwa is nearing completion.

“It is almost 80 percent completed,” Sri Lanka Railways General Manager A.G.Mahanama said.”Once this project is completed, we do not see any problem in operating a commuter train service on this railway line”, he further said.

Meanwhile, the double track project on the coastal railway line from Kalutara-North to Payagala-South is progressing well.

The Government has allocated around Rs.40 million for the double track and several major railway lines. The double-tracking project involved rehabilitating the original single track and building another parallel line, while the existing railway track remained fully operational. The track had been designed considering several key elements of increasing the traveling speed of both passenger and goods trains, he said.
