Fake gold case:
Man remanded

A man who allegedly sold fake jewellery saying it was gold was
remanded until October 26. Sampath Anuradha Samarakoon of Wijayapura,
Anuradhapura was produced in Courts on Thursday.
The suspect together with two others had cheated A H M Ramlan of
Colombo by selling iron pebbles painted in gold saying it had been taken
from a treasure trove.
Ramlan had paid Rs 800,000 to Samarakoon who vanished after giving
him the bag containing fake gold, police said. On a complaint made by
Ramlan to Anuradhapura police, Sampath was taken into custody at Jaffna
junction, Anuradhapura. The police also took into custody Rs 175,000 and
a mobile phone. IP Nimal Shanthe, SI Yasarathna, SI Ananda and
Gunathilake are investigating. |
