The All-Island Anti-Narcotic Drive initiated by the Police is spurred
to eliminate the narcotic menace from the country within the shortest
possible time, said Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya.
He held a special discussion with Senior DIGs, DIGs, SSPs and OICs at
the DIG Office, Colombo yesterday. He said that OICs in all 425 police
stations are advised to take stern action against those who use and sell
narcotics. The special anti-drug operation chamber established at the
Police Headquarters is open daily for public complaints and information
on narcotic traders. Balasuriya said public help in this operation is
highly valued and assured confidentiality of those who provide
information.
The IGP said that the police is fully committed to eliminate
narcotics use from the country and will carry it forward until the task
is accomplished. He has personally visited eight police stations to
inspect the special operation on narcotics. He said that a progress
meeting would be held in another two weeks and after another month he
would assess the operation once again.
IGP Balasuriya said that the Environment Police Units (EPU) have come
forward to take measures to protect the environment with the
collaboration of institutions. EPUs are also concerned about cleanliness
and Dengue. Legal action will be taken by these units against those who
violate the environmental law. |
