Sustainable peace
through religious unity
Sustainable peace can be achieved if all those who profess different
religions unite. This is the panacea for peace not only in Sri Lanka but
also all over the world, so said President Sri Lanka Peace Forum Ven Dr
Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera.
He was speaking at the inaugural meeting of Jaffna District Peace
Forum at Jaffna Thiru Marai Kala Mantram.
The Thera said he was happy to participate at the inaugural meeting
of Peace Forum nearly after thirty years. There had been fueds between
religions in the past. Now the progressive thinkers in every religion is
working on an agenda to bring sustainable peace in our country. The
Peace Forum is established to solve internal differences and to unite
all.
He said their Headquarters is in New York. Branches of Peace Forum
are functioning in Asian and European countries. In Sri Lanka branches
are functioning in Batticaloa, Kandy, Ampara, Anuradhapura and Vavuniya
districts.
This Forum is not controlled by the Government. They work
independently. The leaders of this Forum have decided to meet in Colombo
and conduct an All Island conference.
Unified cancer treatment in Jaffna
The difficulties under gone by cancer patients in Jaffna has been to
a great extent diminished by the unified cancer treatment. Ample
facilities have been created in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for the
patients to get treatments, Medical Officer in charge of the Jaffna
Teaching Hospital’s Cancer Treatment Unit Dr N Jeyakumar said.
He further said treatment for cancer patients is now done at the
Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
The Cancer X’Ray Unit is functioning at Tellipallai. Clinic for
cancer patients is functioning at the Teaching Hospital, Point Pedro,
Manthikai Hospital, Chankanai Hospital, Chavakachcheri Base Hospital and
Karainagar Government Hospital on stipulated dates. Further on the
second week (Tuesday), third Thursday of the month cancer treatment is
done at the Kilinochchi and Vavuniya hospitals. The clinic is in charge
of a cancer expert and nine other medical officers.
The unified cancer treatment unit is greatly benefited by patients,
he said.
Jaffna Hindu College
prize day
The annual prize giving of Jaffna Hindu College was held on October
14 with the Principal V Ganesharaja in the chair. Northern Province
Education Ministry Secretary E Illangovan was the chief guest.
Illangovan in his address said he had his education at Jaffna Hindu
College about 35 years ago. At that time the school had only six class
rooms.
He said that it is a matter of pride that the old boys of this
college are spread all over the world, singing the praise of their Alma
Mater. You have proved your educational excellence in public
examinations in sports too you are an invincible force to reckon with.
Your name is legion.
He reminded the students that Jaffna Hindu College has a stamp of its
