Five thousand appeals received

The Examinations Department received 5,000 appeals with regard to the
results of the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.
Commissioner General for Examinations Anura Edirisinghe told the
Daily News that the time frame provided for forwarding appeals regarding
the Grade-Five Scholarship Examination ended on October 5.
He said applications were provided to schools to present appeals on
the results of students who only have serious doubts and were
dissatisfied with the results of the Scholarship Exam to forward their
appeals through the Principals.
This year, Principals of the respective schools will have to file the
appeals in writing with valid reasons. Appeals must be forwarded
certifying the students eligibility with report cards of the term test
results and extra circular activities approved by the class teacher and
sectional head, he further said.
The Examinations Department is expected to carry out the
re-correction process shortly, the Commissioner said.
This year, 315,000 students sat for the Grade Five Scholarship
examination and 32,000 students qualified to enter popular schools and
are eligible for scholarship funds. Meanwhile, the Education Ministry is
spending Rs 5 million to grant a certificate of merit to students who
sat for the examination and scored over 70 percent in the two papers, on
the instructions of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardene. |
