Shamal steals the limelight at Mirigama

The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club organized Motor Racing Championship
2010 concluded yesterday at the Mirigama Super Race Track on a grand
note. The days events saw lot of enthusiasm as it was the final event
for this years championship.
The final event of motorcycles up to 250 cc which was to run for
eight laps had to be stopped after five laps due to an accident which
occurred during the third lap.
Upto the fifth lap it was Maduranga Caldera who was in front
controlling the race followed by G A Lakitha Shamal. Bad luck struck
Caldera coming onto the right hand final corner where he crashed onto a
rider and got thrown out of the track.
Shamal however avoided the scene and managed to receive the chequered
flag to be the winner.
R. Uduyangh Cooray and M C S Perera finished as the two runners-up in
this most interesting and the biggest event of the day.
S A Lakshika the only lady driver competing at this meet against her
two brothers and one of the leading drivers Ashan Silva won the event.
Her brother S A Duminda and Ashan Silva finishing second and third
respectively. But the organizers had to withhold the result of this
event as a protest was lodged.
There were many incidents taking place during this event and the
organizers in the meantime also had to hold back championship decision.
Though the awards for the Group SL-N Mini was awarded, the
championship was held as another protest was received by the organizers.
Yesterday the winner in this event was Hafiz Cader. He was closely
followed by Upendra Weerawarnakula and Namal Silva.

Motor Cycles Group J 125 cc 4/T under 16: Lilantha Tharaka.
Motor Cycles Group O 125 cc 2/T: Shazrath Ismath Noon.
Motor Cycles Group O 125 cc 4/T: Sanjeewa Udaya Kumara.
Motor Cycles Group O 160 cc 4/T: D L A E Weerasekera.
Motor Cycles Group SM Super Motard 250 cc: Udesh Wedisinghe.
Motor Cycles Group O 250 cc 4/T: G A Lakitha Shamal.
Group SM Super Motard 450 cc: Ramal Pathiratne.
Group SL-N Cars over 12 kg: Prasanna de Alwis.
Group SL-N Nissan March 1000 cc: S A Harsha (withheld).
Group SL-N Mini 1000 cc: Shashika Lakmal Wijeratne.
Group SL-N upto 1050 cc: Surinda Gunewardene. |
