War heroes’ welfare loan to be upped

Rs 75,000to be increased to Rs 300,000:

The Rs 75,000 loan granted to war heroes by the Army Welfare Director Board will be raised to Rs 300,000, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya said. He said arrangements are being made to grant it as a housing loan in the near future.

Four Indian Naval ships in Sri Lanka

Four Indian Naval ships, INS ‘Tir’, INS ‘Shardul’, INS ‘Tarangini’ and ICGS ‘Varuna’ of the Indian Naval 1st Training Squadron, arrived in Sri Lanka on October 9 on a goodwill visit. INS ‘Tir’, INS ‘Shardul’ and ICGS ‘Varuna’ arrived at the Port of Trincomalee while INS ‘Tarangini’ arrived at the Port of Colombo.

A 17-year-old girl abducted from Matugama area was found near the Kandy railway station yesterday. Police say she had been brought in a van and left abandoned in Kandy.
