Syrian President arrives in Iran
Following a reception at Tehran Presidential palace by Ahmedinejad,
Al-Assad and his Government’s officials began talks with Persian
authorities on different cooperation topics.
IRAN: Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad arrived Tehran Saturday to
meet with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and other
officials in order to discuss the complex situation in the Middle East,
as well as to strengthen bilateral links.
Following a reception at Tehran Presidential palace by Ahmedinejad,
Al-Assad and his Government’s officials began talks with Persian
authorities on different cooperation topics.
Press TV channel broadcast the welcome ceremony, while IRNA official
news agency reported that the visitor’s agenda includes a meeting with
Supreme Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Ayatolah Sayyed Ali
Khamenei.
The Syrian delegation is formed by Vice President Faruq Al-Sharaa;
Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem, the Vice President’s assistant, Gen,
Brig. Muhammad Nassif, as well as other officials.
Apart from bilateral topics, the two Presidents will also talk about
the Palestine-Israel conflict, and the current direct talks at
standstill between the two parties promoted by the USA.
The current situation in Iraq and Lebanon will also be discussed, as
these two neighbouring nations have a big interrelation with Syria and
Iran.
The situation of Palestinians in Gaza Strip, controlled by the
Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas and blocked by Israel since 2006 is
another topic for discussion.
