Dating back to nearly 5,000 years or more yogic asanas (postures) have been developed and practiced by ascetics to achieve a high level of attainment.

Though it embodies concepts from all religions: how to be in harmony with the entire universe, Yoga is a path to reach the ultimate.

Four paths of Yoga
* Jnana Yoga (Yoga of wisdom)
* Bhakti Yoga (Yoga of devotion)
* Karma Yoga (the path of action of selfless service)
* Raja Yoga (the royal or psychological aspect of the mind)

Guruji Yogacharya Arun Kumarji is a messenger of this scientific system.

He had initiated the Infinite Dimension Charitable Trust in Chennai in 2002 to spread the message of Yoga, meditation, energy healing and organic way of living among the public. “Yoga has many benefits.

You engage in the practice to attain physical well-being as well as improve your mind power. It is quite different from well-known exercise systems because it does not work on the outer body alone. They also focus on the internal organs,” Yogacharya Kumarji said.

Explaining the chakras which exist in the five bodies that make up the human being: the physical body, energy body, low mental body and emotional, higher mental body and intellectual body and the spiritual body, he said that yogic exercises are aimed at working on all five levels.

“You get multidimensional benefits. Each posture is designed to master a specific area of the body. When you do a set of asanas you feel the results within your whole being. Some ailments too can be cured gradually through practice,” he said adding that this method is known as ‘Yoga therapy’.

Yogacharya Kumarji had been an electronic engineer at one of the premier institutes in India before he took up the practice.

He is a student of Swami Vishnudevananda who is a disciple of one of the greatest Yoga masters of the 20th century, Swami Sivananda. He introduced Sivananda Yoga, the Yoga of Synthesis which is very popular around the globe.

Yogacharya Kumarji said: “Though I have based my teachings on this practice system, I have brought a new concept, a modified version of the art which is a friendly technique to modern day people. It is called Peoornatvam Yoga or Yoga for complete well-being.

Seven principals of Yoga

* Proper exercise
* Proper breathing
* Proper relaxation
*Proper diet
* Positive mind management and optimal use of third power
* Proper connection with divinity and the universe
*Concentration, awareness and meditation

We have named it Ananda Yoga for Sri Lankans meaning ‘loving bliss’.

We give a lot of emphasis to the energy circulation, breath and mind.” Speaking about the asanasYogacharya Kumarji says that they are not difficult to integrate into your daily life schedule all day round.

“More than 90 percent of the people breath in the incorrect manner. That is the genesis of all the problems. We are on a mission on how to teach them to breath properly.

We breath all the time but the only difference here is that you need to be more aware.

You also meditate to grasp facts. You can sit in your office and engage in some of these simple exercises.

We teach from 35 to 40 asanas plus health reju venation exercises and sun salutation to a regular basic class,” he stressed adding that the ideal time to practice Yoga is at dawn (4 a.m. to 6 a.m.) when a lot of positive vibrations are roaming.

Yogacharya Kumarji and team also focus on concepts like energy healing, therapeutic use of Fine Arts such as Classical music, dance and painting and provide guidelines on what to eat. The diet is a very important aspect in Yoga.

“We educate people on food free from toxic chemicals. Farmers are motivated to produce organic food through ‘Organic Plus’. We purchase the goods and supply them to the public for a comfortable price,” he expressed.

He had visited countries like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Europe and USA, training students on Peoornatvam Yoga. His next destinations are South America, Canada and Africa.

He had been touring areas in Sri Lanka since March and hopes to conduct a teacher training course in Jaffna.
