Police on treasure hunt

ASP, seven other police officers arrested :

Sakuntala JAYASINGHE and Anuradhapura Courts corr Upali Tilakaratne

Polonnaruwa police have taken into custody eight police officers including an Assistant Superintendent of Police while hunting for treasures at the Dimbulagala Siripura Suriyadeva Raja Maha Vihara Monday around 2 a.m.

On information received from the Dimbulagala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Police had acted quickly and the suspects were caught red handed. The ASP is supposed to be serving in the Vakarai area. Police have also taken into custody two civilians that had come to assist the police team, a police jeep and implements used for treasure hunting. Polonnaruwa police are conducting further investigations.
