Defence Secretary opens Vahalkada at Angulana

The newly constructed archway (Vahalkada) at Swarnamali Viharaya in Thelawala, Angulana was declared opened by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on Monday.

Construction work was made possible under the patronage of A.G. Chithra Perera on the instructions of Chief incumbent Amarapura Nikaya Mahanayake Thera Ven. Ambalangoda Sri Sumangala Thera.

A minutes silence was also observed, commemorating fallen war heroes followed by an 'anusasana' by Ven. Sri Sumangala Thera, Ven. Dodamgoda Assaji Thera and Ven. Thirikunamale Ananda Thera also delivered ' anusasanas'.

Ven. Sri Sumangla Thera delivering his 'anusasana' reminded the gathering that it was due to the determination of the Defence Secretary that the tri-forces and Police were able to rescue thousands of civilian hostages from LTTE tyranny and achieve a great feat in history.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Army Seva Vanitha Army Branch President Majulika Jayasuriya, Major General (Retd) M.D. Fernando, Major General (Retd) Kapila Hendawitharana and A.G. Chithra Perera Silva were also present on the occasion.
