Wiping out terrorism:
Lanka fine example to the world - Qatar Emir
The Qatar Government promised its unstinted support and co-operation
towards Sri Lanka’s development program following the return of peace
when President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is in New York to attend the 64th
UN General Assembly sessions met Emir Kalifa Althani of Qatar in New
York yesterday.
At the official meeting Emir Kalifa Althani congratulated President
Rajapaksa for wiping out terrorism which dogged Sri Lanka for a
considerable period and said Sri Lanka’s performance in this regard was
a fine example to the whole world, said a communique issued by the
President’s Media Division.
The Emir also assured Sri Lanka future assistance to master the
production of LNG (natural gas) through the transfer of techniques owned
by Qatar.
He also assured assistance in the development of Sri Lanka’s Tourism
Industry. During the official meeting President Mahinda Rajapaksa drew
the attention of the Emir towards enhancing the welfare of nearly 95,000
Sri Lankans living in Qatar.
The Emir responded by assuring to setup a special school for the
children of Sri Lankan expatriates in Qatar.
The Emir who promised to encourage Qatar’s corporate world and the
business magnates to establish links with Sri Lanka added that his
country was eagerly waiting to grant Sri Lanka observer status in the
Organization of Islamic States soon.
Minister Prof G. L Peiris, Nimal Siripala de Silva and John
Seneviratne and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa were associated with the
President during the talks. |
