One killed in safari mishap

A local tourist was killed and eight others injured when a safari jeep plunged into a ditch in the Yala National Park on Sunday evening.

W A Buddhika (34) of Indella, Polgahawela died on admission to the Hambantota Hospital.

The other casualties including the driver of the jeep were admitted to the Hambantota Hospital. The Jeep met with the accident near the 10/2 culvert in the National Park.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that this group of eight had gone on a trip to the Yala National Park during the weekend.

They all were employees in one company.

Police Spokesman also said that they have hired the jeep from a private company in Thissamaharamaya.

The postmortem on the remains of the deceased was to be held at the Hambantota Hospital yesterday.

Thissamaharama Police are conducting further investigations.
