Fish breeding centre to breed cat fish locally
Rambodagalla Ornamental Fish Breeding and Training Centre will breed
cat fish (Pangasius Suchi) locally to save large sum of money spends
annually to import them.
They have taken measures to introduce the cat fish breeding
technology for those who engage in ornamental fish industry.
The Ornamental Fish Breeding and Training Centre has also taken
measures to increase aquatic plants production and exports by using
tissue culture method. Earlier aquaculture farmers used to export
aquatic plants which are collected from water reservoirs.
The farmers can easily produce large number of endemic, rare plants
and plants with high demand in the global market by using tissue culture
method, Rambodagalla Ornamental Fish Breeding and Training Centre
Aquaculture Scientist Manori Bambarenda said.
A two-day training program will be conducted by the Centre on
September 24 and 25 at the Rambodagalla Ornamental Fish Breeding and
Training Centre to provide technical guidance to produce aquatic plants
using tissue culture for those who engage in ornamental fish industry
and for those who willing to enter this field.
